The richly diverse art collection of one of the great Florida Art Museums, the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College inWinter Park Florida, boasts more than 6,000 works, one of the largest and most distinguished collections in Florida. It is also the oldest in the state, the first paintings having been given to Rollins almost a century ago. Visitors will find both European and American works from the Baroque and Renaissance periods, but what really shines at the Cornell is its intuitive exhibits focusing on 20th-century art. The Cornell has not been afraid to explore all forms of art, and in addition to exhibits centered around paintings, sculptures and more traditional pieces, the museum has displayed collections of comic art, graphic novels and other less-recognized forms of expression.

Since 1988, the Cornell Fine Arts Museum has organized a number of powerful exhibitions based on (or drawn entirely from) its own collection. Italian Renaissance and Baroque Painting in Florida Museums, and exhibition using works from the Cornell and other Florida museums, opened in 1991 to record crowds. A major showing for the Museum’s 15th anniversary in 1993, Treasures of the Cornell Fine Arts Museum, resulted in the publication of a 142-page collection handbook and a statewide tour of the exhibition.
